I can’t seem to just let it be, can I! its hopeless!!! for that reason, this as been titled “Hopeless”. Also, perhaps I shouldn’t have been painting it while listening to the Presidential impeachment trial here in the US. (also hopeless). maybe my next attempt will be softer and less “fiddley”. For that I remain hopeful.
Hi Christine, Gloria here,
I completely understand the concept of not being able to leave it alone! My problem exactly with pretty much every painting so far! Having said that I think your painting is beautiful! I love your background! And the way the different colors of the flower flow beautifully one into the other! I think you should really be proud of this one!!
Gloria, thank you. It is my goal at sometime to have an unfiddled tutorial. I seem to fiddle more in tutorials than when I do a painting on my own. I suspect I’m fighting it! What a rebel, right! Lol. Anyway, thank you for the lovely compliment. I do so love this school and all the help Chris gives us.
Thank you. Good advice. I’ll stop beating myself up and continue to try, because there’s a picture in my head of how I want my paintings to look and I still think I can get there. If not, I’ll resign to “this is me and the way I paint”. I usually like the painting in the end, but my vision of it is still trapped in my head. In the meantime I’ll listen to your words for encouragement. Thanks.
Chris, do you have any insight into this? Should I accept what flows from my fingers as the way I paint or should I strive to change my painting style until the vision in my head is able to be put to paper. Ugh! I’m afraid that may sound crazy. Lol. But hopefully you’ll understand what I’m trying to ask, and as always I value your wisdom.
. Hmm…maybe I simply need to follow the tutorial more closely (lightbulb moment) 🤣🤣🤣
Christine, sorry I’m late to the comment party. Someone had the nerve to give me the flu and I’ve been in bed for nearly a week! Your painting is gorgeous! I don’t understand your comments about it being fiddley! I understand about being critical of our work, I’m guilty of the same thing. You see something in your head, but can’t quite get the paper to agree with your vision. LOL. I think your painting is gorgeous as always. I love your combination of hard and soft edges. That’s how you paint and I don’t think you should change your style. It’s YOU! By the way, how are you liking your new palette? I don’t think I could live without mine!
Terri, so sorry to hear you caught the nasty bug; it definitely is making the rounds. Hope you’re better soon. Thank you for your comments. You always seem to have the right words. I feel better and will take your advice, accepting the way I paint. Thank you. I love my new palette. I’ll make more comments over in the forum. Again, thank you so much!
Christine. I’m painting the orchid right now. The left side looks like mud. Not vibrant at all. I just couldn’t get the colors to behave correctly in the wet on wet method. I’m going to continue and hope the flower turns out nice enough that no one will look at the background. So far I’m stressing over this painting but I don’t want to add anymore layers of paint. I have a long way to go to get the wet on wet method right. Better keep practicing.

Beautiful. I can just keep looking at it!
This is fine Christine. Stop beating up on yourself. This is you, and you are not hopeless.😘
